Review: Kedr Livanskiy - Ariadna l For English scroll down

Das am 8. September 2017 von der russischen Künstlerin "Kedr Livanskiy" veröffentlichte Debut-Album "Ariadna (ариадна)" führt uns in eine Sci-Fi Welt der 80er und 90er; Und noch viel weiter: zu unentdeckten, "musikalischen" Planeten in den weiten des Universums, im silbernen Touch der alten Soviet-Union.

Die gebürtige Moskauerin Yana Kedrina, die unter anderem vom Designer Gosha Rubchinskiy unterstützt wird, gibt auf ihrem Bandcamp unter anderem an, dass sie ebenso die späte Sovietzeit mit ihren vielen Elektrokünstlern als auch die Nachbarschaft ihrer Kindheit in Moskau, mit ihrer apokalyptischen Szenerie, "wo Industrie auf Natur" trifft, für dieses Album inspiriert hat. 

Für "Ariadna", benannt nach einer griechischen Göttin,  hat sie sich in die Funktionsweise vieler klassischer, analoger Synths eingearbeitet und diese dann zu ihren einmaligem, vollen Sound verarbeitet.

Das Album erinnert mich sehr an Synth Wave/ Cold Wave-Klänge, die Opale bereits auf eine entfernt ähnliche Weise zauberte.

Beruhigend, kalt, düster, deprimiert, aber auch verzaubert, wohltuend und ästhetisch.

Viele der Sounds sind sehr satt und lassen einen bei geschlossenen Augen genießen, als würde man mit einer Sojus-Kapsel durchs Weltall fliegen und dabei auf die Menschen und das Leben in der UdSSR herabschauen.

Gerade Tracks wie "Mermaid" muten sehr experimentell an, es gibt manche Tracks, die sogar fast ohne Drums und Percussion auskommen, für mich ein super tolles Konzept.

All-in-all ein sehr ausgewogenes, aufeinander abgestimmtes und melodisches und deepes Album, was einen in eine Zeit zurückversetzt, in der alle Häuser hoch, grau und gleich aussahen und durch einen verblassten Filter vergangener Zeiten vor einem erscheinen.

Bedrückend und befreiend gleichzeitig.

Dieses Album ist ein Essential für den Winter 2017.

Ariadna bekommt von mir 4 von 5 Sternen, eine Empfehlung speziell wenn du dich gerne Mal vom Hier-und-jetzt trennst und zur Melancholie und den streichelnden Synth-Streichern trippen willst.

Es ist noch viel schönes und "anderes" von ihr zu erwarten, ich hoffe nur, dass ihr musikalischer Werdegang nicht so schnell aufhört wie bei oben angesprochener "Opale" und vielen weiteren tollen Coldwave- und Experimental-Artists.

On 8th September 2017, Russian artist "Kedr Livanskiy" published her debut-album "Ariadna (ариадна)" which takes us in an 80s/90s sci-fi world, but even more: to the unexplored, musical planets far away in space all with the silvery touch of the old soviet union.
The Moscow-born Yana Kedrina, who is also supported by the designer Gosha Rubchinskiy, tells us on her Bandcamp, that the late soviet union with its electronic artists aswell as the neighborhood of her childhood inspired her album, with their apocalyptic scenes "where nature and industry meet".
For "Ariadna", named after an ancient greek godess, she discovered many classic analogue synths and used them for the unique and phat sounds of the album.
For me, the tracks show some simmilarity to Synth-/Cold Wave sounds as created by Opale in a different way before.
Calming, cold, dark, depressed but magical, soothing and aesthetic as well.
Much of the sounds are very full and are preferably enjoyed with closed eyes, where you can imagine how you would cruise in a sojus capsule through space, looking down on the people and the life in old soviet union.
Tracks like "Mermaid" sound very experimental, some others are completely produced without the use of any drums or percussion - a very nice concept if you ask me.
All-in-all the album titles are very fitting and well-balanced, also melodical and deep, which takes one back in time, where all the skyscrapers stood: grey and identical-looking - with a view through a blurrish filter of times from long ago.
Oppressive and liberating at the same time.

This album is essential for winter 2017.

Ariadna get 4 out of 5 stars, a recommendation especially when you just want to get rid of the sense of time and space and just want to lay back to trip to the melancholia and audio, time by time.

In future, we expect more beautiful and "different" sounds like this from her, but hopefully she does not quit as fast as "Opale" and so many other great Coldwave- and Experimental-Artists in past.
